PARIS TN: Buchanan man leads deputy on chase in Paris Landing area

A Buchanan man is facing a felony charge of evading arrest after leading a Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy on a lengthy vehicle chase Sunday morning in which he was driving more than 120 miles per hour.

Adam Christopher Wilson, 42, of 35 Point Pleasant Road was also charged with DUI, driving on a canceled, suspended or revoked license and reckless driving.

The incident began at 5:30 a.m. Sunday when Sheriff’s Deputy Frankie Scott received a call about a red sedan coming across the bridge from Stewart County, traveling southwest on Highway 79 at Paris Landing at a very high rate of speed and crossing the lines on the highway.

Scott, driving northeast near Kirk’s Trading Post Road, used radar on the vehicle and determined it was traveling at 121 miles per hour. Scott turned his vehicle around and activated his blue lights, but Wilson did not stop his car. Wilson later turned onto Point Pleasant Road, eventually turning into an RV park and parking as the entrance gates closed behind him.

Scott could not get through the gates because he didn’t have the pass code, so he parked nearby and started walking toward the park. Wilson then pulled his car back out of the RV park and went back to Highway 79, heading southwest toward Paris, again at a high speed. Scott hurried back to his patrol car and followed.

When Wilson turned onto East Antioch Road, he drove right through a four-way stop and almost hit another vehicle, according to Scott’s report. At that point, Scott decided to call off the pursuit because of danger to the public, but when he continued on the road, he saw Wilson’s car at an intersection near Buchanan Resort. When Scott turned on his lights and siren again, Wilson took off, traveling to Lakeview Drive, then stopping on Gracey Drive.

When Scott approached the vehicle, he noticed a smell of alcohol. Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Josh Wade arrived at the scene and conducted field sobriety tests on Wilson, leading to the DUI charge.

Wilson is scheduled to appear Jan. 30 in Henry County General Sessions Court. His bond was set at $3,500 on each of the four charges.

In a separate incident, a Springville man was charged with theft of property over $1,000 Saturday afternoon.

Steven Lee Milton, 54, of 70 Maybun Drive was arrested at 4:18 p.m. Saturday at his home by Sheriff’s Deputy James Higgins. Milton is scheduled to appear Tuesday in General Sessions Court. His bond was set at $7,500.
