Waffle House shooter declared unfit to stand trial, judge rules

NASHVILLE, Tn. (WVLT) — Alleged Waffle House shooter Travis Reinking is not competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Reinking is accused of killing four people at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee in April. He was a part of a 34-hour, door-to-door manhunt that locked down schools across the Nashville area.

Reinking appeared in court, Wednesday, after medical experts deemed him mentally unstable and unfit to stand trial, and was ordered to be placed in a mental health facility with the intention of moving forward with the trial in the future.

Psychologist Rena Isen spoke with Reinking before the hearing, and said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

He currently faces four counts of criminal homicide and four counts of attempted homicide. Reinking used and AR-15 rifle he received from his father in the killings.
